MACH Alliance Research Reinforces Growing Appetite for Composable Technology, Finds 7% Increase in Companies Proving ROI

The MACH Alliance’s 2025 Global Annual Research reveals that 87% of organizations have widely implemented MACH technologies; 9 in 10 report meeting or exceeding ROI

MACH Alliance, a not-for-profit industry body dedicated to advocating for open, best-of-breed technology ecosystems, today announced the results of its fifth annual global survey of IT decision makers, demonstrating overwhelming support that the MACH and composable technology approach continues to gain adoption and generate a strong return on investment.

The 2025 Global Annual Research report found that 9 in 10 organizations that have implemented some MACH technology say it has met or exceeded ROI expectations, representing a 7% increase from last year’s findings.

Launched at a special event coinciding with NRF 2025: Retail’s Big Show in New York City, this year’s research identified the top three benefits of a MACH approach:

  • Improved customer experience (55%)
  • Greater automation via improved systems and processes integration (54%)
  • Greater organizational agility and/or adaptability to change (50%)

The report also suggests that increased agility and competitiveness are experienced by organizations further along in their MACH implementation. Of those organizations that defined themselves as having a mostly MACH/composable infrastructure, 51% have become more competitive, and 52% report the organization adapts more quickly to change.

Composable Technology Gains Widespread Adoption

Key to the research’s overall findings, the report revealed that 87% of organizations have widely implemented MACH technologies, suggesting a broad embrace and acceptance of the MACH approach across industries, including retail, financial services, and healthcare.

Only 9% of respondents said their desire to embrace composable technology decreased due to economic volatility. As such, over 91% of IT leaders reported an increasing desire for MACH adoption, regardless of the current economic climate.

Despite the growth, some barriers to adoption remain. Overall, a lack of board or leadership support and IT teams that are resistant to change present the greatest impediments to MACH adoption, according to the report.

“As stewards for the global digital business and brand community that aspires to transform to an open and composable digital ecosystem, the insights and outcomes of the MACH Alliance’s Global Annual Research aim to promote clarity and transparency about the considerations that are top of mind for technology leaders,” said Casper Rasmussen, president, MACH Alliance. “The findings highlight the most important trends that are driving the global digital landscape that we hope will inspire fruitful conversations on the benefits and considerations of MACH adoption.”

Methodology

The MACH Alliance’s fifth annual survey collected responses from 561 IT decision makers at the director level and above. The United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, and Australia are represented in the research. For 2025, Canada and Australia were added to be more representative of a global survey. All respondents represent companies with at least 5,000 employees and $500 million global annual turnover.
