Kurtz brings over 30 years of risk and crisis management expertise to Guidepost Solutions
Guidepost Solutions, a global leader in domestic and international investigations, compliance solutions, monitoring, and security and technology consulting, today announced the appointment of seasoned security expert William A. Kurtz, as a vice president in its Protective Services practice group. Kurtz, who possesses over three decades of experience in risk management and executive protection, will be based out of the firm’s Washington D.C. office.

Prior to joining Guidepost, Kurtz held a dual role at Precigen Corp and Third Security, LLC, where he successfully managed global security operations, developed executive protection strategies, and guided security practices across multiple regions, including Europe and the United States. At Precigen, an American biopharmaceutical company, Kurtz was instrumental in executing third-party cybersecurity assessments and fostering a security-conscious organizational culture through training and risk management education. At Third Security, a venture capital group, he was responsible for the security of venture capital operations, authoring incident response plans, and leading strategic business diligence efforts.
Kurtz also had a distinguished 24-year career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), holding significant leadership positions, including supervisory special agent and chief of the Counterterrorism Investigation Assessment and Response team. His responsibilities included leading planning and oversight of security and investigations during major national and international events, as well as serving as unit chief of the FBI’s National Joint Terrorism Task Force, where he directed efforts of over 100 Joint Terrorism Task Forces with 4,000+ members from 600 state, local, and federal agencies.
As a recognized thought leader in the industry, Kurtz was also an assistant professor at The National Defense University, facilitating courses in strategic leadership, national security, and industry studies. He holds a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies at Marine Corps University as well as a Master of Science in Criminal Justice at Virginia Commonwealth University.
